I have
been in a transition phase since I was 14, when I moved from
Surrey to Sidlesham and started two years at Manhood Community
College for my GCSEs. I then transferred to Chichester College
where I am currently working towards my AS level exams. Next
year I will be doing my A levels and then I hope to move on
to university.
Although
these changes are normal for somebody my age, a physical disability
brings other changes such as different helpers. I can just
about cope with all this, provided that the key people who
work with me stay the same throughout this period. These are
my social worker, O.T., physio and home and college helpers.
They are all brilliant and help me to forget my handicap by
being real friends as well. Earlier this year, my Home Care
helper was removed which was very upsetting, as I don't really
want to be bathed by a complete stranger, when I am trying
to remember something like French or German vocabulary for
college that day! Changes like this are very energy draining
for me and I feel that the whole of the transition period
for people like me should be supported by the people we have
grown to like and trust.
