| The
Independent Living Fund is a fund set up and financed by central
government to enable people with disabilities to live in the
community rather than in residential care. ILF can be used
for personal care and domestic care, ie help with bathing,
dressing, cooking, eating, shopping, laundry, cleaning, getting
in and out of bed, and help when going out.
You
can apply for ILF if you meet all of the following criteria:
Be at least 16 years old and under
66 years old. (If under 16, you can apply for ILF 3 months
before your 16 th birthday, so payments can commence on
your birthday)
Be living in the UK
Receive the highest rate care
component of DLA
Be able to live in the community
for at least 6 months
Have capital or savings of less
than £18,500 and an income that is insufficient to
cover the cost of the care needed
Receive at least £200 per
week net provision from the Local Authority and be assessed
as needing additional care
The cost of the package between
the ILF 93 Fund and the Local Authority must not exceed
£715 per week for the first 6 months
Be at risk of entering residential
care if appropriate support is not provided
How
to apply:
An
application form can be obtained from Social and Caring Services,
from the ILF Head Office or downloaded from www.ilf.org.uk
You fill in part 1 and your Social Worker fills in
Part 2. The form then needs to be sent to Independent Living
Fund, PO Box 7525 , Nottingham , NG2 4ZT . You can call them
