Wellspring West Sussex has been funding places for children with additional needs and/or siblings at Lizzie’s Craft Club since 2010. This spring we received a generous donation from The Thornton Trust which has enabled us to make the club FREE and INCLUSIVE to ALL children aged 4 to 11!
It has been a wonderful term, meeting new families and getting to know lots of lovely children. I’ve got some fantastic volunteers who bring lots of enthusiasm and smiles each week. It is so special to see friendships growing within the group and seeing the children supporting and encouraging each other.
Before Easter we had a brilliant 5 weeks of Spring Craft Club and made plenty of wonderful creations! These included decorated flowerpots which the children took home for Mother’s Day along with cards and fabric purses. We created bunny portraits, using egg boxes for the noses and ears, drew our own shrinky keyrings and designed Easter egg puzzles and mini egg holders.
We then had a wonderful 5 weeks at Animal Craft Club with 11 children coming overall. We used magazine pictures to create a background for farm and pet scenes and made wild animal collages with crayons used for the landscape. Cocoa and coffee pots became animals and magical creatures using felt, foam, card and googly eyes. Caterpillar keyrings were made with buttons threaded onto pipe cleaners.
All the children were so proud to show their parents what they had been making and learned that some things have to stay in the art studio to be completed next time!
The club runs on term time Saturdays from 2.30 to 4.00pm. It is held in my art studio in Sidlesham which is fully accessible. It is a drop off, small group with lots of support – there’s space for parents to stay nearby if needed. Please contact me if you would like more information.
